My good friend Lee Porter is a Murgon artist whose work has been exhibited
in New York and entered in Sydney's famous Archibald Prize. Like me, Lee
loves strong, vibrant colours and her web site has a great gallery of her
current artworks.
Gary and Karla Eye oprerate The Artists Cottage in Kingaroy. The Cottage
is an arts collective that's home to several very talented South Burnett
artists apart from Gary (who's well-known in his own right for his
wide-ranging works in all types of media). The Cottage also has its own on-site
Gallery and a great cafe, and is home to the monthly Makers, Bakers and
Growers markets held on the second Saturday of every month. The Cottage
is open every day and well worth visiting!
Helen Saint-Smith is a South Burnett textile artist and painter whose works
can be seen at local galleries, the Artist's Cottage and on her own web site.
Helen has been working in the arts since 1982 and she also runs painting
classes.
Wildlife artist John Spies was one of the South Burnett's first well-known
artists, and specialised in painting native flora and fauna. Sadly, John passed
away a few years ago but his widow Marjie now curates his works and they're still
available for sale through their website.
South Burnett Online is the South Burnett's web portal and it provides a
huge amount of up-to-date information on all aspects of the South Burnett,
including a great
Daily
Calendar that lists all the art exhibition openings in the region.
I also has a
Major Annual Events Calendar which lists all our
region's Festivals, Race Days and campdrafts.
South Burnett.biz is our region's online business database. It's another
part of the South Burnett Online network and it provides another way that
you can locate South Burnett artists (South Burnett.biz lists all the artists
in the region, whether they have a website or not).
The South Burnett is a wine region and South Burnett Wine (another part of
the South Burnett Online network) is your one-stop guide to all aspects our
terrific wineries. Many of the South Burnett's wineries have been enthusiastic
supporters of local arts and they regularly display South Burnett artworks
in their cellar doors.
South Burnett Tourism is another part of the South Burnett Online network
and it displays up-to-date tourist information about the area I live in.
Unlike online guides produced by Tourism Queensland (which only list tourist
operators who pay the State Government money), South Burnett Tourism lists
everything. So if you're planning on visiting the South Burnett, this is
the guide you can trust.
