I met Jess quite a few years ago. She often attended my spin class and I had done a couple of programs for her over the years. Jess came to me in 2016 wanting another program and after telling her about the Challenges I was running with the gym, she decided to dive in and join.
Jess is a delight to train and spend time with. She trains hard and listens to my advice and is always particular with technique.
During the first challenge I gave Jess a one on one coaching session and she hasn’t looked back since. It was a turning point for her and she flourished. Week after week her results have remained consistent and once she reached the weight she was satisfied with, she kept the weight off.
Jess has kindly given me her time in this interview to share with you her experience.
Q. Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
34 years old veterinary nurse, mum to a three and half year-old legend and a geriatric staffy. I Live in Kippa-Ring with my fiancé and babies. Studying medical sonography.
Jess and her daughter.
Q. What is your number 1 health/fitness goal?
Be healthy, be well.
Q. What keeps you up at night when you think of your health and fitness?
My health. I have a history of Ross River Virus, Glandular Fever, Adrenal Fatigue and recurring tonsillitis. I feel great now, but never want to get that totally depleted again ☹.
Q. Where do you see opportunities right now for improving your health and fitness?
More time for exercise (I am mentally SO MUCH HAPPIER if I exercise daily).
Stop snacking when I am studying haha!
Q. How do you see yourself in 12 months time?
I would like to be stronger, I would like to be more balanced.
Q. How much weight have you lost since training with Rischelle?
Q. What do you feel are your biggest achievements since you started training with Rischelle?
I started training with Rischelle after I lost my way when I became a mum. I had played soccer for years and went to the gym a fair bit. I stopped training when I became pregnant and lost my confidence. I was very nervous going back to the gym and used to just hide on a treadmill.
I feel much more confident now, I LOVE training and look forward to it. Training with Rischelle has also really made me question the food I put into my body and the health benefits associated with it. I am most happy with the fact that all my niggling constant colds, tonsillitis, viruses etc. are DRAMATICALLY reduced. I cannot put a price on that, just so happy.
Q. What motivates you?
Being accountable to someone (usually Rischelle) and group training.
Q. What worries you?
Going back to how I was health wise and losing my way again (gaining weight etc).
Q. What is your favourite type of training?
Group training, anything hard and fast that gets my endorphins going 😊.
Q. What do you enjoy about training with Rischelle and being a part of the challenge?
I find Rischelle incredibly motivating and also very kind. She is also tough enough that I don’t want to disappoint or let down. Rischelle is a perfect combination of the two, so I always feel very supported but know that weak excuses don’t work with her 😊.
Rischelle also dedicates a lot of her own time outside of a training session looking after her clients, I have never found this kind of interaction with a PT before, I feel like Rischelle is also a friend.
Q. How have your friends and family reacted to your weight loss?
Mostly positive, hard at the start because everyone had a comment on it (good or bad) and seemed to take it very personally if I didn’t eat shitty food, or If I prioritized my training over other things. After lots of uncomfortable conversations and feelings of guilt, I am passed all of that. I know to be healthy mentally and physically I need to keep doing this.
